How can solidarity strengthen the Israeli culinary world during times of crisis? How is mishloach manot related to food security? Join us for an evening of wine and conversation with Dr. Uri Mayer-Chissick.
Celebrate the release of Dr. Uri Mayer-Chissick’s book “The Politics of Food,” at the Asif Library over a glass of wine (or two). We’ll discuss the relationship between community and food security from the agricultural revolution to today.
The second meeting of Asif’s Book and Wine Club will take place on Purim, a fitting time to discuss the importance of giving and mutual aid. In an era of global warming, skyrocketing food prices, and an increasingly centralized food market, we will learn how to help protect our communities and our access to food.
Dr. Uri Mayer-Chissick is a historian of medicine and nutrition, a researcher of local traditions, and a social activist. “The Politics of Food” (Radical Publishing) is his fifth book.
