When American-born food writer Adeena Sussman moved to Tel Aviv, she found herself at home in the city’s central market, Shuk Hacarmel. Through her daily shopping and cooking, she explores the foods of her adopted home, which she captured in her hit book “Sababa: Fresh, Sunny Flavors From My Israeli Kitchen.” Join Sussman in conversation with food writer Devra Ferst as they discuss the cookbooks Sussman turns to again and again like “Zahav” and “Aromas of Aleppo” and how they can inspire menus for the upcoming Jewish holidays. Adeena Sussman is the author of “Sababa: Fresh, Sunny Flavors From My Israeli Kitchen,” which was named a Best Fall 2019 cookbook by The New York Times, Bon Appetit, and Food & Wine. She is currently working on her followup to “Sababa,” all about the foods of Shabbat. The co-author of 14 cookbooks, three of Adeena’s recent collaborations were New York Times best-sellers.

Devra Ferst is a food writer and editor based in Brooklyn, NY. A former editor at Eater and Tasting Table, her food and travel reporting has also appeared in the New York Times, Vogue, Food & Wine, NPR, and numerous other publications. She is currently the editor of the Jewish Food Society, which preserves and celebrates Jewish family recipes from around the world. When she’s not writing (and it’s safe to travel again), you can find her exploring produce markets from Odessa to Bangkok.
