The River Cafe Cookbook

In 1987 Rose Gray and Ruth Rogers started selling sandwiches in Thames Wharf. With a strong focus on high quality ingredients and simple Italian cooking, or cucina rustica, they grew River Cafe into one of the most influential restaurants in London. “I love how simple their cooking and recipes are, using only a few of the best quality [ingredients] they get and allowing them to sing,” says London-based chef and cookbook author Sami Tamimi who recommended this book for the Asif library.

The River Cafe has put out several cookbooks over the years; this was the first and is sometimes called “The Blue Book.” In its pages are recipes for lentil and sorrel soup, spaghetti with bottarga, panzanella, and raw artichoke salad.
