Yom Asif: The Past, Present, and Future of Local Food

During Yom Asif (“Asif Day”), we will examine the idea and tastes of local food in Israel. After years of culinary globalization, the idea of eating, growing, and shopping “local” has become a central part of food culture and discourse. During Yom Asif (“Asif Day”), we will examine the idea and tastes of local food in Israel with the help of academics, writers, chefs, and food tech pioneers. Join us for panels and lectures where we’ll ask what is local food in the context of identity and the climate crisis, and how we can blend long standing local agricultural and culinary traditions with modern innovation and technology. In the Asif Test Kitchen, we’ll taste local terroir through olive oils, sample biblical ingredients that have grown here for centuries, and citruses cultivated more recently by the Volcani Institute. Join us at Cafe Asif to get a taste of it all. The one-day special menu, will be available between 12:00-20:00. Asif: Culinary Institute of Israel is proud to be home to an in-depth discussion of key terms and principles that emerge from the local discourse, to break them down, to challenge them and finally – to connect and formulate them in collaboration with the local food culture lovers community.
